Dawn Garber, MS, LMFT, IMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

  • As a 40-something with 15+ years of clinical experience in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have found that life is a journey of learning filled with twists and turns, many of which are beyond our power and control. It seems that when we are faced with the choices that naturally proceed from this journey, often we choose something not because it aligns with our highest value, but because it protects our unspoken vulnerabilities. If our greatest loyalty lies with our greatest fear or pain, then that fear or pain holds the potential to be either the cage that imprisons us or the opportunity that grows us to a new level of development that we would not otherwise have attained. Therein lies the choice, and that choice requires courage. It is a choice either to stay on the long-trodden path where we've been, or to brave the new adventure that lies before us. Therapy is a place to find tools, support, and empowerment for that adventure! I would be honored to join you there.

In my 15+ years of practice I have found a collaborative strengths-based approach promotes the best environment for therapeutic work, creative problem solving, and lasting change. I love to meet my clients where they are, help develop their readiness, and equip them for their next steps. I offer guidance and encouragement as they build competency, comfort, and confidence in their new skills and life direction. To do this, I operate from a foundation of systemic thinking and utilize a variety of practical skills from CBT, DBT, and solution-focused models woven together through the lens of Attachment Theory and Internal Family Systems. I work together with my clients toward identifying and creating change in dysfunctional internal and external behavioral or interactional patterns.

Over the years, I have enjoyed collaborating with a broad variety of clients in therapeutic work, ranging in age from adolescents to geriatrics. Together we have undertaken concerns such as depression, anxiety, panic, trauma/PTSD, mood disorders, grief, addictions, and relational problems. I have helped with life and career direction, identity and self-worth, spiritual formation, and the difficult transitional phases of life. I also hold a deeply rooted connection to my Christian faith and a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries from Bethel University Indiana. Our therapeutic work together can include Christian Counseling with a Biblical foundation and use of prayer or scripture to whatever degree you desire. Should you have any questions or concerns with our therapeutic collaboration, I am happy to work together on finding a preferred method that fits our partnership.

Thank you for considering me to assist in your new adventure! I look forward to working with you!
